Over all improvement over my last generation Pioneer AVIC-930. GPS features improvements include much faster processor, more flexible search, better traffic reroutes. I get more stations with HD radio, but I think adding a signal booster is a plus to better locks in on stations. the touch screen sensitivity & accuracy is much improved as well. I find the auto dimming functions independently from the cars interior illumination control, which leaves the radio much too bright & dangerous while driving on dark road. Changing the screen's brightness is not easy or safe while driving.

i upgraded my 2007 hummer h3 from a clarion nx404 head unit. i hemmed and hawed but the more reviews and youtube videos i watched told me i made the right decision. the unit seemed expensive but i purchased it on ebay at a very fair price and had it installed at bestbuy and also upgrded the factory speakers to jbl speakers. sounds phenominal and i am very happy because the investment was much less than i thought. love the features of the 8100 and i get alot of compliments on it. do your homework and buy on ebay. you can save literally hundreds of dollars as i did.

Good: HD Radio, ApplecarPlay (almost like a 7 inch screen display for my iphone, though not every apps are available), also accept Android adjustable tilt screen (several angles to choose, upgraded from 5200 to this model mainly for this feature, when a screen can be installed only at 90 degrees, that looks stupid) SD card plays music (tested with FLAC, APE, plays all kind of sound format even my newest 200GB micro SD card) Pioneer Navigation system is the best, better than any factory ones (Toyota, Honda, Acura..), very accurate voice prompt at the right ramp to turn or change, voice guidance is 100% useful) this top of line AVIC comes with the best sensitive touch screen, the 5200NEX LED touchscreen pissed me off, very clumsy should I keep going? the music played (on my iphone and SD card) even displays Chinese font (artist, album, files...) correctly, man, I LOVE that!!Read full review

I'll keep this short, I think the 8100 is overkill in the end. I wanted to have Android Auto, and that works pretty good. It needs some fixes and updates I expect will happen as the product evolves. The Radio itself could use a faster processor, but is quick for the most part. the software in the radio for playing USB stored media is sad and not well thought out. The glare on the screen only happens with direct light from behind - for the most part thats ok. DOcumentation, cabling, all were smart and easy. I don't like the warning window that can't be defeated. Unit was too pricey for what it provides over the 4100. the 4200/8200 came out this year and I couldn't get ANY info from anywhere about buying them and settled on this. I hear the 8200 has LESS features for the same price (Mirrorlink is removed)Read full review

Responsive touch screen and great to be able to use equalizer anytime music is playing. Plenty of different connections on the head unit and gps includes which lane I need to be in, which I think is pretty cool. Would definitely recommend.
