This could not be a better purchase. This laptop came with everything I needed, and a few bonuses (I probably won't ever burn a dual layer dvd, but it's nice to have), and is now the most powerful computer in my house. Pros: Great graphics card, 4 gb of ddr3 ram (which I can upgrade), 200gb of hard drive space, and a DL-DVD+RW Writer. Cons: Shorter than usual battery life, and a DisplayPort on the back instead of HDMI.

I had been using a white Acer Chromebook for the past couple months, and it was great for online browsing, checking emails, watching youtube etc. Extremely lightweight, great battery life and portable, however it would slow down a few times while trying to do more than one task. But, i needed something more powerful to do photo editing and more business appearance/build. So i started shopping around, and came across this HP Business Laptop. So i started researching reviews, and how to upgrade the RAM etc, and looked for any common problems. I liked what i read, and bit the bullets and decided to give this Refurbished HP 8440P a try. First Impressions Build Quality 5/5 Yes, this thing is old, but it is well built and SOLID! Its like the Millenium Falcon. It may have age, but it still gets the job done, and well. Not sure if it can do the Kessel Run in less than 12 Par Secs, but yea. It has a nice brushed aluminum finish, and nice sold "click" when you close the screen. It has multiple inputs/outputs, bluetooth, wifi, all the goodies. It laptop itself has good weight to it, but i love it. OS: 5/5 Windows 7, runs sooooo smooth on this laptop. Especially once i upgraded the RAM to 8GB, this thing is blazing fast. I was actually offered to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, and was hesitant, because i was not a big fan of Windows 8. But after seeing reviews of Windows 10, it looks like Microsoft got rid of the tiles on the start screen and moved them into the Start Menu. Finally! So i am currently running windows 10 on this, and still works fantastic, and looks even nicer as far as the layout goes. Screen Resolution: 3/5 Not the best, but it is older, but im willing to live with it, considering the price i paid! Battery Life: 3/5 On a full charge, i can probably get about 2 hrs on this. And thats consistently being on it, and working, but like i said most of the time when im using it, im by an electrical outlet. Overall: 4/5. SOLID! This thing is a beast for the $200. It blows away the $200-$300 Chromebooks in performance, and is on par with laptops currently on sale for $500+. However, not as lightweight, and not as great of battery life or display. So if youre looking for something fast, and getting the job done, but you dont mind the short battery life, okay display, or bulkiness, then this is the one for you! And you wont be disappointed! -BoRead full review

I have a slightly older model also (6930p), only bought this one because it has a larger HD, webcam and slightly faster. These are not the lightest or newest but are built like tanks... and personally I like the "industrial" look. Nice aluminum case which does not show fingerprints, although the one drawback to aluminum is it can get dented although with that kind of force a plastic case would likely break. Screen is not the greatest but not bad either. If I were running Windows on these I am not sure how happy I would be because they may struggle a bit with a big/heavy/demanding operating system but this one came with Linux Mint which runs great, using little resources or space and I can do pretty much anything (in fact more in some ways) I could do with Windows... only faster with less memory or space needed. The ONLY drawback I see to Linux (and I've been running Ubuntu for a while on other systems which I also like) is that of this moment there may not be as much software (apps) available as with Windows, but you can find almost anything you might need. I bought these because i want to get away from MS, and doubt I will ever run anything past Win7 for a lot of reasons, 2 biggest being spyware installed by MS and the fact that MS is trying to force Windows 10 on everyone. If you have a computer running Windows 7 or 8 you may have already downloaded 10 without even knowing it. Linux is free, open source, has great support from thousands of users and overall is the most used O.S. in the world ... Android, your car and most any other appliances, many if not most servers are all running versions of Linux. This little laptop runs like a champ with Linux Mint, which (if you are not familiar with it) you might want to check out... looks and runs very much like windows 7... only better, faster, no antivirus needed and lots of other advantages. I've tested this for HD video editing and it doesn't lag at all with Linux, nor does it sputter running HD videos even off a flash drive. Was in the market for a new laptop for over $1000 but when I learned what MS is doing decided to try to move away from Windows and glad I did saving a lot of $$$Read full review

They are heavy and bulky but have lasted as I take them around to workshops for kids to use. I have a fleet of 9 of them now. They keep on ticking.

I had this same laptop as a company issued laptop. I thought it did the job well for the most common needs and it was light weight. I ended up buying one on Ebay for my wife to use around the house. Great value for the price if you can get an off lease refirb in good condition.
