This is an excellent portable document scanner for making pdf files. It's powered by the USB port, so no external power is needed. Software is free from Fujitsu; you just need to input the serial number on the unit. Once the software is installed, all you have to do in plug the USB cable into the unit and the computer, and the computer will automatically recognize the scanner. To scan, you just put the paper into the front and push the scan button on the unit. It will only scan one side, but you can reverse the paper and it will take it back in the front to scan the other side. Papers will need to be fed in one sheet at a time; it's a small price to pay for such portability! Scans are excellent and the pdfs are clear and easy to read. Additional free software allows for character recognition, as well as the ability to scan into programs like Excel or Word for editing of your character-recognized documents.Read full review

This is an absolute must have. I have bought 4 of these. I have a tax office and it is a great way to organize files and my scanned documents. No electric cords, powers through the usb. A real space saver. The software works great. Saves me $800 a year in software cost for paperless files. The only draw back is I can't set up the way I want on the server, yet. I may get it to share like a printer does. Just have not figured out how. Give me time. When there is a will there is way. My clients have purchased this scanner to scan old photos to put on disk or other media devices. My small business owners especially truckers, love The portability. And no additional power supply needed. Just plug into your laptop and go. The use is of this scanner is endless.

This scanner uses proprietary software to do scanning. IT IS NOT TWAIN COMPLIANT! IT WILL NOT SCAN DIRECTLY INTO ANYTHING EXCEPT THE ACCOMPANYING SOFTWARE. That being said, while setting up the software is a little bit of a pain in the a$$, you can scan to pdf or jpg, you can then open the file, copy areas of interest and paste into other software. (I have done this in Irfanview and Quicken (receipts).) It's fairly quick and the provided software does a good job of straightening crooked scans and cropping around receipts of different sizes. It's small, quick, and does the job, but I'd rather TWAIN support than the the Japanese mindset proprietary software.

I had on of these at an old job for at travel work. This is a good scanner. It is a little slow but it is dependable and faster than my flat bed. I had some issue downloading the driver at first. The Fujitsu site is sorta confusing and it gives you a few choices at to which driver to download. Once I figured it out it is working fine. This scanner was way to expensive brand new and is a much better deal used since they stopped making it.

I received this item promptly and it was advertised perfectly. I downloaded the driver from the web site that was recommended and it was so easy to set up. This scanner doesn’t require an additional power supply so that makes it very portable. I travel constantly for work and the size and convenience of this makes it easy to pack. I've used other scanners but there bulky. After packing them a couple times they would be left at home.
