This book is chalk full of information about digital design. However, as someone who is new to the world of digital design, this book is pretty hard to understand. John Wakerly does not set up the material so that it is easy for newbies to understand and make good sense of it. It does have exercises so that you can test your knowledge of the material, but there are no solutions in the book so that you can check your answers. Overall it is a good book if you have someone on hand that doesn't care to explain some of the material to you.
John Wakerly tries really hard to make digital logic more entertainig than ones and zeros. He includes a lot of funny wit and the text flows at a stream of thought tone. Unfortunately anyone interested in buying this books probably is doing so because the professor said, "Buy the book or you will fail." But if you are for some reason buying this book for a good time than it might just float your boat.
* Why you bought it - I bought this because it was a required text for one of my courses * What you like most about it - It is very much a typical textbook, full of information, but the author manages to have a sense of humor that is conveyed through his writing. * What you dislike about it - There is no "selected answers" section to verify your answer from time to time.
I bought the book for class, I really haven't used the book but compared to the original price, I thought this was a a good deal. I have the older edition, and it's pretty much the same, so for anybody that just wants to read this book, the new version is not really too different.
The content of this book is kind of old, especially the hardware description language part, when comparing to the speed of industry development. But overall it is a good book
