After doing some research I settled on a GW1-C featuring the Novatek 96550 chipset. It's a well reviewed dashcam that hits that sweet spot between image quality, features, price. Apparently there is more than one Chinese manufacturer of GW1 dashcams and some are considered "fake". I guess "fake" means they use an older or inferior chipset with lower resolution and lesser image quality. With that in mind I looked for a branded model figuring if the manufacturer was willing to slap their brand name on the product it might legit. The brand I purchased is Blueskysea. Never heard of it, but there are a lot of no-name units out there. Anyway, I bought the GW1 model that houses a capacitor rather than a Lithium Ion battery--hence a GW1-C. The capacitor means it must always remain plugged in but is supposedly more reliable overall--running cooler, safer, and able to function well in higher temperatures. My Blueskysea GW1-C dashcam was imported from China and arrived in a little more than one week. It was smaller and lighter than I had imagined but felt solid enough. It has, so far, performed very well and I'm impressed with its 1080p HD video quality in both daylight (sunny and overcast) and nighttime driving. If you're considering a GW1 check out a few YouTube reviews first to see the video quality and to learn how to navigate the menu and setup options. It's pretty easy to figure out but videos are helpful--definitely moreso than the multi-language, but not terribly helpful product manual. You will need to get a Micro SD card (class 10) to insert into the side of the dashcam for video storage. The GW1 can accommodate up to a 32GB micro SD card and, what's nice, is the dashcam can loop record so you never run out of space. Loop recording can be set to 2, 3, or 5 minutes. You really can't go wrong for about $45 USD. I recommend it.Read full review

I bought several of the Blueskysea G1W-C cameras before, but this latest one is no longer able to play back the video clips in fast forward or reverse, it only plays back at 1x forward speed, making it impossible to review clips on the camera without spending a half hour waiting for it to play in real time speeds. This was one of the important features I look for; other than that the video quality is good.

Love this product. Takes amazing clear videos and photos. While driving, it stays still and does not shake. The mount also stays intact onto the window at cold temperature here in Canada. Definitely recommend to anyone for their daily drive!

Very good and affordable dash camera, very good video quality.

Great product for the price. The sensor is capable of day time AND night time without issue. Angle could be wider but for the price and low light performance I have no complain.
